We'll need to know whether a database was migrated to the latest version
in our upcoming data migration tool. To be able to determine the current
version of a DB and the total number of migrations in existence, we need
to export some of the functions in channeldb.
We also add some helper functions for adding tombstone and other markers
to a database.
This commit enables the db to run optional migrations that are specified
by config flags. To achieve this, an optional meta is introduced to
manage the optional migrations. We distinguish the two types of
migrations here so it's easier to manage them for the concern a future
migration can cause trouble for us to determine the db version if we
don't.
Similarly as with kvdb.View this commits adds a reset closure to the
kvdb.Update call in order to be able to reset external state if the
underlying db backend needs to retry the transaction.
This commit adds a reset() closure to the kvdb.View function which will
be called before each retry (including the first) of the view
transaction. The reset() closure can be used to reset external state
(eg slices or maps) where the view closure puts intermediate results.
In this commit, we migrate all the code in `channeldb` to only reference
the new `kvdb` package rather than `bbolt` directly.
In many instances, we need to add two version to fetch a bucket as both
read and write when needed. As an example, we add a new
`fetchChanBucketRw` function. This function is identical to
`fetchChanBucket`, but it will be used to fetch the main channel bucket
for all _write_ transactions. We need a new method as you can pass a
write transaction where a read is accepted, but not the other way around
due to the stronger typing of the new `kvdb` package.
This commit performs a slight refactoring of the internals (and API) of
the [Fetch|Put]Meta methods. The changes are rather minor and simply
eliminate the conditional branching structure with usage of an internal
function. This new form is much easier to follow.
This commit unexports the SyncVerions PR, in favor of making it private
and moving it into the .Open() method. With this change, callers no
longer need worry about ensuring the database version is up to sync
before usage, as it will happen automatically once the database is
opened.
This commit also unexports some additional variables within the package
that don’t need be consumed by the public, and exports the
DbVersionNumber attribute on the meta struct. Finally some minor
formatting fixes have neen carried out to ensure the new code more
closely matches the style of the rest of the codebase.
In this commit the upgrade mechanism for database was added which makes he current schema rigid and upgradeable. Additional bucket 'metaBucket' was added which stores
key that house meta-data related to the current/version state of the database. 'createChannelDB' was modified to create this new bucket+key during initializing. Also
backup logic was added which makes a complete copy of the current database during migration process and restore the previous version of database if migration failed.
